Text Diff Tool

Small editorial changes can be difficult to spot across two similar drafts. Paste the original and revised versions to see what was added and removed.

Choose Words for detailed copy changes or Lines when comparing code, lists and longer documents. You can also ignore differences in letter case or repeated whitespace.

The results place both versions side by side. Red highlighting marks text removed from the original. Green highlighting marks text added to the revised version.

Privacy

The comparison runs inside your browser. The plugin does not send either text to WordPress or another service.

Large comparisons

Word-level comparison requires more browser memory than line comparison. If a document exceeds the safe comparison size, switch to Lines or compare it in smaller sections.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a text diff tool do?

It compares two versions and identifies content that stayed the same, was removed or was added.

Should I compare by words or lines?

Use Words for articles, emails and page copy. Use Lines for code, lists, data and long documents.

Can I ignore capitalisation?

Yes. Select “Ignore letter case” before comparing.

Can I ignore spacing changes?

Yes. The whitespace option treats repeated spaces, tabs and line breaks as equivalent whitespace during comparison.

Why does a large word comparison stop?

Detailed comparison requires memory based on both versions. The tool limits unusually large comparisons to keep the browser responsive. Switch to line mode or compare smaller sections.

Does the tool store my text?

No. Both versions remain in your browser.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. On smaller screens, the original and revised results appear one above the other. The page moves to the results after comparison.
